Down tempo
chill out music, but with that little something that makes it interesting
rather than monotonous. Fine for playing in background while people
are taking part in worship station activities. |

Orbital |
Dance/Electronica |
Orbital's
first album works well as up-tempo background to worship, mainly
due to it's simple vocal-free construction! Can play at low volume
in background, with sound person adjusting level to allow service
leaders to 'talk-over' the top of it with little distraction.
Of particular note is track 5 (which is very Late Late Service-like
in form!), also tracks 8, 9 and 10 which have been widely used
by Alt. Worship groups! Available at mid-price in many record
shops (around £7), so worth a pop! Other Orbital albums
also worth checking out (I don't have them all, so interested
to hear your views on their other CDs; feel free to mail
me if you have any comments). |

Electronica |
Upbeat musical
backing music, great for playing as people walk into a worship space
(Track 1 is ideal for this!). This is the only album of theirs I
have, so would be interested in your views on their others, feel
free to mail me. |

song Backing Tracks |
If you're
planning a service where a large proportion of the congregation
are likely to be unfamiliar with alternative worship, or just want
something 'familiar' to put into an event, this CD may be just the
thing! Worship group Proost have written new upbeat backing tracks
for 10 classic hymns, providing vocal versions (as MP3s on the CD)
and printed lyrics as well as the backing tracks (as CD Audio).
Very easy to learn and use within worship - recommended. Available
from Proost. |

Also from
Proost is
the instrumental version of their Spirit of the New CD. No vocals,
so ideal as background to meditations etc. |

Chillout |
Classic 'warm
sound' chillout album from Norwegian band Röyksopp - bet you've
got this already! Some tracks are instrumental, others have vocals
(T3,T5,T8), so you need to select carefully before use. It's both
melancholy (T4,T7,T9,T10) and playful (T1,T2,T6), so choose tracks
appropriately to suit the mood you wish to create/inspire. |

Visions, York |
Prayerful
Ambience |
A collection
of tracks from those fine Alt. Worshippers at "Visions",
based in York. Designed to provide background ambience during prayer
activities. Some tracks better than others (in my humble opinion),
but definitely worth having in your collection if you can get hold
of a copy (the last I heard was that stocks had run dry, but it's
worth having a quick word with the Visions people at www.visions-york.org). |
